Relationships – come in all shapes and sizes
Your first thought is probably that a relationship counselor helps you with your spouse or significant other. However, you have many types of relationships in all areas of your life including family (parents, siblings, children), friends, and co-workers.
Our relationships in day-to-day life serve to either improve how we feel or make us feel bad and doubt ourselves. They are extremely influential in determining how we function from day to day.
Family issues
Every family has problems with communication and how members interact. We’ve all had those Thanksgiving meals with expectations of family togetherness and fun that turn into disasters of hurt feelings and resentment.
When family patterns and roles are not healthy and do not create security for some or all family members, they can cause repeated problems and distress.
Even though we want to be close and bonded with our family, we become stuck and don’t know what to do. These unhealthy patterns can affect parents and children, siblings, blended families, and extended family members.
Parenting
None of us were born as perfect parents. We doubt our skills and are influenced by our own childhoods that may not have been the best examples.
We tell ourselves that we’re not going to repeat the mistakes of our parents. But then, we find ourselves doing the same things.
Together, we can build strategies that will help you maintain authority in your family while respecting the independence of your children.
Parenting adolescents
What’s happened to my child? Teenagers can be trying, confusing, and frustrating.
Their job is to figure out who they are and where they fit. They’re beginning to develop a sense of independence but may not have the ability to effectively manage their independence.
So many things are changing for them physically, socially, and emotionally. Those changes can be scary for you and for them!
How can we help?
Regardless of what problems you and your family are experiencing, we can help reduce the amount of conflict in your home and help bring you closer together.
Family counseling can help you and your teenager navigate this period of development in a healthy way to help your child prepare for adulthood and help you understand the changes they’re going though.
Your family can come to have a better understanding of one another and feel that sense of love and security that you desire.
