How we got to the heart of the matter
I’m Terri Wright, founder of Wright Counseling Group.
I’ve been a therapist for 25 years. Not far from half of my life; hard to believe!
That’s a long time, so as you can imagine, I’ve seen a lot of people from all walks of life. I’ve also received training in a wide variety of therapy types, all of which have and still do contribute to my helping people find their way in life.
However, to me there always seemed to be a piece missing, and I couldn’t really put my finger on what it was. Especially with couples and relationship counseling.
Then I ran across something called EFT (short for Emotionally Focused Therapy).
I’d read that it had a 70 to 90% effectiveness rate. IMPOSSIBLE, right? That’s what I said.
I decided what the heck; I’d go see what this EFT stuff was all about and signed up for a week-long training. That one week changed my life and consequently has changed the lives of a lot of other people.
The difference that I saw in my connection with all of my clients and the real connections that I saw building with couples who came to my office was amazing. It was in fact transformative.
Here was my missing piece in the puzzle.
It didn’t feel fair to keep this miraculous discovery to myself.
So… After many years of having a solo practice, with no previous intention of ever changing that, I decided to expand my practice.
I wanted to be able to touch more people’s lives, be more effective in my community at large in helping it heal; to help them feel more connected to themselves and to others in their lives.
A movement is born
I was so lucky to have three fabulous therapists, whom I already knew to have both skill and passion, join me in opening our group practice in August of 2016.
Since then a fourth therapist has also joined us and has already begun her journey with EFT. We are now the ONLY practice in Mississippi and the Mid-South where every therapist in the practice is either a certified EFT therapist or has advanced training in EFT.
Wright Counseling Group has a broad range of skills and training when it comes to its therapists.
Where relationships flourish
Our practice is not limited to couples – we also see individuals, families, and children.
However, we do believe that the problems we encounter as we move about in the world, even as an individual, are primarily based in our lack of connection and security in our relationships – both past and present.
Therefore, we consider our specialty to be RELATIONSHIPS. Our future lies in being the Relationship Center of Mississippi and the Mid-South.
